Solid Rimu MCM Drawers
  • Solid Rimu MCM Drawers

This little set of drawers is a true MCM revival! The wood grain and depth of colour are absolutely sublime. We believe it's New Zealand Rimu, and the craftsmanship is a truly exceptional and rare.

Take a closer look at those corner joints that continue the entire length of each side from front to back - we believe it's a Locked Rabbet Mitre Joint. And even more remarkable is that each side of the body and drawer fronts are each one solid plank of timber.

It took lots of perseverance, patience and Danish oil over a several months to restore this piece and the result is stunning. You won't be able to resist running your hands over the mesmerising grain and colors of this piece.

And to really complete these drawers we custom-made MCM pulls to match the original brass capping on the solid timber legs.

We're thrilled with the end result, especially when we learned how rare and protected this type of timber is. NZ Rimu is a slow-growing tree that takes 100-150 years until it's ready for harvesting. There's only a small resource of this timber, tightly controlled by the Ministry for Primary Industry, making it one of the most expensive timbers for furniture-making.

It's hard to believe that this stunner almost ended up in a landfill. Don't miss your chance to own a one-of-a-kind piece of furniture that's not only beautiful but also crafted from one of the world's most precious woods.
